I’m not a casual girl. I never have been. You’ll rarely see me in a t-shirt and jeans, and I barely own anything basic, with the exception of gym clothing. I’ve always been this way. I have an unlimited amount of sequined dresses, but hardly any casual weekend outfits and I never shop for them.
A funny phrase to me is, “just be casual.” I arrive to places in my idea of casual, (usually a spring sundress and flip flops, or black pants, flats, and a blouse), and people always laugh at me. “I thought I told you to be casual,” they say. Well, this is me and this is my form of casual.
While on the search for my idea of a casual weekend outfit, I stumbled upon several of J. Crew’s fun, summer pieces. I fell in love with a Midnight Floral Silk Top. The colors were a swirl of paisley perfection. They also had a gorgeous jumpsuit in this print, but unfortunately it didn’t work out for me. I paired the printed blouse with white denim shorts, and it became me own version of a perfect weekend look.
I love that the top could be worn for multiple seasons because of the color combo. In the fall or winter, it could be paired with black pants. In spring and summer, you could pair with white jeans or shorts. I usually look for versatility in pieces that I choose, and I love that this style has so many options.
I accessorized with a pendant necklace (on sale!), and gold bangles (similar here and here), as well as gold link earrings from my collection (similar here). I wore flat shoes and of course my favorite, blue, Ray Ban aviators (on sale!). My casual look and my outfit was complete.
We spent the day wandering around the city and watched the sunset along Hudson River Park. Sometimes I love days and weekends without a plan.
So, what’s your casual look? Whatever you want it to be. I happen to love to dress up, and I don’t quite feel the same, when I can’t put myself together. This means that your casual look should be whatever you’re most comfortable in. It doesn’t need to be a t-shirt and jeans, but if that’s what you’re most comfortable in, then rock it. Fashion is all about remembering your personal style. Don’t try to look like or be anyone but yourself.
In the meantime, check out J.Crew’s summer collection. Their colors, prints, and styles have inspired my summer style, and I hope it helps to inspire yours as well. Have fun in the sun, Beauties! xo
