When Grant and I met, we dated long distance for several years. He lived in Kentucky, and I was here in NYC. I would visit his hometown in Kentucky on the weekends. One day, as he drove me around, I noticed a sign that said Versailles. “Hey, you brought me to France,” I teased. Little did I realize, that there’s a Versailles in Kentucky too. I was caught in a daydream, as we drove. Wouldn’t it be oh-so-lovely to visit Versailles in France together one day? It would be quite the dream.
Fast forward almost 9 years, and we recently hopped a plane to Paris, as Grant was invited to shoot backstage with The Beachwaver Co., created by celebrity hairstylist, Sarah Potempa. They are the hair sponsor of the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, which happened in Paris this year. “Is this real life, I thought? Yes, yes it most certainly is. Dream come true, to say the least. From Versailles, Kentucky, to Versailles, France, we traveled together, on one exciting adventure.
We set off, early in the morning. It was freezing in Paris, and I’m lucky to have brought multiple outerwear pieces. My 9 to 5 job is dedicated to a company, specializing in outerwear, so needless to say, I’m a bit coat crazy. Three coats would be enough for a four day stay in Paris right? Or did I need more? Hmmm. Food for thought.
I fell in love with a cranberry, wool military coat from one of my favorite brands we design, Eliza J. I always imagined wearing a red, statement piece while visiting Paris. I couldn’t figure out why my heart was set on it, until I remembered this sketch I illustrated over the summer(which you can find here). I somehow must have known that Paris would be in our immediate future.
For the day at the Palace of Versailles, I paired the coat with a black, faux fur scarf (similar here), black leather boots (similar here), pants (similar here), gloves, and carried my fave black, YSL mini, duffel bag. To finish off my look, I wore my Foster Grant Gia Sunglasses. I’ve been sporting my Foster Grant sunnies for awhile now, and I love that this style complimented the coat, with black frames, and gold metallic accents.
We pulled up to Palace of Versailles, and my eyes lit up. We walked up to the grand black and gold gates, as we entered the palace, and were surrounded by spiraling staircases, guilded gold accents, ancient artwork, and more chandeliers than I’d ever seen in my life. I’m a glitter girl, so needless to say, I was in heaven.
When we finished with the palace, we walked through the gardens of the palace grounds. We sat on a bench, chatting together. While at home in New York, we spend many of our weekends, walking through Central Park, sitting on random benches, wasting away hours of the day, and chatting about life. On this particular day, we sat in the gardens of the Palace of Versailles, on yet another random bench, chatting about life. Same story, different scene. There was something so special, yet surreal about it.
The day will go down as one of my very favorites. The palace, the city, the boy, my best friend, and the cranberry coat. What more could I ever ask for? Dream come true.
