Summer in the City

What to wear when it’s 90 degrees out? It’s roasty, toasty, and well…if we could just head to work in our swimsuits and sit next to an inflatable kiddie pool, that would be divine. Maybe we could add a pineapple pool float or two…(Don’t forget the margarita!).

This summer we’ve spent so much time in the city. It feels empty, it feels like ours, and it feels like home. We’ve had little adventures and local hangouts that we look forward to each weekend. Although the summer should feel slow, the two of us have been working our little tails off, therefore I’m appreciating the easy breezy evenings and weekends, instead of the over planned ones.

For an afternoon in the city, I found a brilliant, yellow, maxi dress (similar here), that I couldn’t resist. I say this often, but lately, I’ve had a love affair with yellow. It’s a statement color, and a happy one at that. For days when I find myself in need of extra sunshine, I bust out a little yellow number and it improves my mood in moments. Not only does it improve my mood, but I also notice a change in the way people react to the color. A bit of “nerd alert” here, but because I have a thing for color, I am also interested in the way that people react to different colors. For me, I’ve noticed, that I’m much more social when I’m wearing bright colors, and and in turn, others are chatty as well. Bright colors symbolize, a fun, carefree, and adventurous look.

The yellow, maxi dress I chose for the afternoon was pleated, flowy, and perfect for a day out and about in the summer sunshine. This dress also transitions well from day to evening, with a change of shoes, and the swap of a handbag. I kept the look casual with a turquoise, summery tote bag (similar here), and mirrored blue aviators. I loved the contrast between the bright yellow, and brilliant blue. I added simple gold accessories, such as gold hoop earrings (similar here), and gold bangles (similar here) to complete my look.

The weekend felt fun, and carefree…just what I needed. We went out to a few of our favorite restaurants, lounged by the fountain at Lincoln Center, which seems to be our favorite hangout to people watch lately, and we spotted some stars in the sky. We even saw Saturn through a telescope, which was amazing. I worked on some fashion illustrations this weekend, continuing my travel collection, and will be sure to post it soon!

I hope you had the loveliest weekend beauties. Make sure to wear your favorite shades of yellow this week and tell me how you feel. Lots of love. xx
