This past weekend was TOASTY in NYC…just the way I like it. Speaking of hot, let’s add a bit of edge to your summer wardrobe, shall we? Lovely! I’m so glad you agree.
While rummaging through my closet over the past week, I realized something. I have entirely too many floral dresses. My closet is busting at the seams, and it looks like one giant garden party. While I love it, I do tell you to change up your look from time to time. Play different roles. Try out different styles. Therefore, I decided to follow my own advice, by choosing an edgy black, summer look for the weekend. For me, dressing in head to toe black is actually spontaneous. I very rarely wear black. My “go-to” is a color burst of crazy dresses.
You can definitely make black work for summer, while keeping a chic, but edgy look. I found a jumpsuit that I absolutely love, which is black and strapless, with a fun, cut-out detail in the center. The placement of the cut-out is perfect. It’s slimming and hits just the right spot. I know that I’ve mentioned in previous posts, but I’m not quick to try the crop top trend. It definitely makes me uncomfortable. However, cut-out details are a great alternate to the crop top trend. It is slimming, sophisticated, as well as edgy at the same time. Even though it was sweltering during the day, I threw a quilted leather jacket (similar here) over my shoulders, to show you how to mix texture with the romper. It definitely gives the look some attitude, and is perfect for chilly evenings out on the town (if those ever happen again).
To accessorize, I chose a brand new pair of black, Foster Grant shades (similar here). They were a great style to complete the outfit, and this particular pair will perfectly transition your look from summer to fall. I can’t wait to break them out for New York Fashion Week. As you know, I’ve been living in my Foster Grant sunnies, and I just can’t get enough of them. They’ve got an incredible variety of styles, and it’s quite the challenge to choose my faves. Lucky for me, I chose several to sport throughout the summer. Check out their collection and let me know your favorites.
For my evening stroll throughout the city, I chose my Char, neutral, wedge sandals. I could have worn black sandals with this look, however I love wearing neutrals in the summer, since they give the illusion of elongated legs. I talk about this trick often, so for all you shorties out there, I hope you try it. I carried my mini, black, cross body bag by Furla, and added gold bangles (similar here) and hoop earrings (similar here) to complete my look.
So, how do you create your own edgy look for summer? Search for some fun styles with cut-out details. Try a romper or jumpsuit. Look for design details as well, such as metalwork, rivets, leather trim, or mesh in the styles that you choose. There are some great body suits out there as well, that would look chic, paired with high waisted pants, and some fancy Foster Grant sunnies. Play around with your style, and find what works best for you.
If you’re in need of style tips for any upcoming summer soirees, feel free to reach out. I’d love to help. Lots of love from me, in sweltering NYC. Keep cool! xx
