Summer in the City

July 25, 2016

What to wear when it’s 90 degrees out? It’s roasty, toasty, and well…if we could just head to work in our swimsuits and sit next to an inflatable kiddie pool, that would be divine. Maybe we could add a pineapple pool float or two…(Don’t forget the margarita!).

Re-discovering My Love for Fashion Illustration

July 10, 2016

Have you ever had a hobby or a love that you put aside for awhile? Maybe you didn’t have the time for it, maybe you let life get in the way, or maybe you just forgot how much you loved it. Well, the same is true for me. Up until this weekend, I forgot how much I absolutely love sketching and creating fashion illustrations. I haven’t sketched for several years. I used to spend days, weeks, and hours designing, and sketching my heart out, sitting at coffee shops all afternoon and loving every second of it. My mind would wander, as my hands would fly across my pages, creating sketch after sketch. In college, I was a teaching assistant for a fashion illustration class. I helped students learn to illustrate, and it made me so happy. Since moving to New York, and working in the fashion industry, I somehow stopped creating on my own. This weekend, however, I was so excited to get the opportunity, to try out several of Prismacolor’s art products. Staples is currently running a fabulous promotion for the supplies, which you can find here.

Be Fourth of July Fabulous

June 27, 2016

Want to hear an embarrassing, yet patriotic story? Ok…here it goes. When I was a little girl, my mom dressed me in nautical and Americana clothing…all the time. She loved it. She couldn’t get enough. At the time, it was all that the Limited Too was showing, which meant that it was all my mom was buying. Therefore, I went to 5th grade sporting American flags across my chest daily. It was fine. I didn’t mind. I hated fashion at the time (who woulda thought), so I wore whatever my mom made me wear. Don’t get me wrong…she usually dressed me cute, however the Americana themed clothing went a bit overboard. So much so, that the kids in school made fun of me. I was shy and hated being the center of attention. When it came time to say the Pledge of Allegiance, the kids would turn to me and say, “I pledge allegiance, to Hallie, of the United States of America…” I’m not so sure it even made sense, but the classroom of eyes staring at me, were enough to quickly switch my wardrobe. Back then, I wanted to cry. Of course today, I laugh as I recall the story.

What makes you happy? Is it the big stuff or the small stuff? Maybe it’s both. This past weekend, I spent treating myself to the little things that I love, and it made such a difference in my weekend. I cherish the quiet moments in my days; the ones with the sunshine on my face, walking through the park, while sipping on a latté from my favorite coffee shop. So, I did just that.

Talk Derby To Me

April 25, 2016

[show_shopthepost_widget id=”1569159″]

Eight years ago, I met a boy from Kentucky. Call it chance, call it coincidence, or call it serendipity, but he walked into my life and chose to stick around all of these years. I’m sure glad he did. The day we met, I could’ve sworn to you that we had absolutely nothing in common. We were as opposite as could be. We met online and he flew here to visit me from Kentucky. Little did I know, that I would spend years traveling back and forth, during our long distance relationship, and eventually he’d become my Instagram husband (and my real one too).
