Last week’s sunny, Sunday afternoon was perfection. I did the usual; woke up, hit the gym, and got ready for our usual Sunday outing through Central Park. The most amazing part was that the park was bursting with color that day. Everything is in bloom, and the park was buzzing with people, kiddies, and picnics complete with colorful balloons. There are days when the park feels like a complete celebration and Sunday was one of them.
Choosing the perfect outfit for Valentine’s Day, in the middle of snowy February can be quite the challenge. If you are like me, you are completely sick of your winter wardrobe and all of the dark colors that come with it. Spring clothing is out it the stores right now, and it keeps you dreaming of the sunny weather and the beach, but unfortunately it’s completely unrealistic for the winter temps right now. Or is it? There are many ways to brighten your Valentine’s outfit and make it look transitional. When I dress up, I aim to look sophisticated, elegant and glamourous at the same time. My look always changes depending on where I’m headed for the evening.
Beware of Snowmaggadon 2015! We were warned for several days of winter storm Juno, which was about to wreak havoc on New York City. We did the usual grocery shopping, stocked up on the essentials, and of course I decided to go shopping on my way home. It’s all about the necessities in emergency situations! I stopped by the gym, trudged through the powdery snow on my walk home, and settled in for the night, knowing I’d either be making snow angels in the morning or sledding to work, since transportation was down.
It was just a day before Thanksgiving and I had the perfect outfit to wear. There was a forecast for snow, and as I worked from my computer, and gazed out the window, I could see the most beautiful, little white flakes, sprinkling upon the city. It was our first New York City snowfall of the season. I darted out of work to meet Grant and take our perfect snowfall photos, however as I bolted out the door, I was greeted with rain and a bunch of puddles. #omg.
This past weekend, we hosted a fall themed Blogger Birthday Bash for two of our dearest fashionistas, Cara Kovacs of The Stylephile and Leslie Marin of Bleecker and Spring. Unfortunately we missed both girls’ birthdays, so we planned a belated birthday celebration. Our other lovely friends who celebrated were Kathleen Osborne of Le Vintage Dress, Aishly Tromp of Style L4b, and Olivia Ribera of Sweets by Olivia.
I chose a fall theme for the party using shades of plum and metallic gold for the decor. When you are planning a party, it’s important to choose a color scheme and theme for your event. I always start with the look of the room. It helps me to envision the end product, before I even begin. I searched Pinterest for creative, fall themed table ideas, and floral centerpieces to create a story board, which helped me plan the party. You check out my party inspiration boards here.
The winter months are upon us and with that comes the unpredictable rainy, snowy weather. As much as I dread the temperatures, I’m loving the fun, fancy cold weather accessories I’ve found this season.
Sorel is a footwear brand that has recently stolen my heart. I’ve never been a girl who dresses practically. I love sparkly, fancy outfits which are rarely weather appropriate. While attending a Vogue style party, I was introduced to Sorel’s Fall/Winter boot collection. Sorel is best known for their waterproof boots. They are perfect for trudging through any sort of crazy weather. We were able to choose the style we liked best, and my eyes were immediately drawn to the Medina II Boot.
What do you look for when you go shopping? Is it color, or fit? Maybe you are drawn to your favorite brand. As a designer, and stylist I’m often asked this question. People always ask if I have a specific brand that I love. My answer is always the same. I fall in love with a style, not because of the label, but because of the design details.
Design details, are the intricate trims, buttons, hardware, fabric, or gathers on a piece of clothing that make it unique. These special little details add interest to the style, and often give a fashion forward look. Today, I chose several of my favorite pieces, to show you examples of the details I’ve mentioned.
New York’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week is the fashion industry’s chance showcase high fashion on the runways. Held at the tents of Lincoln Center, designers, celebs, stylists, and fashion bloggers deck themselves out, to attend the city’s celebration of style. With all of the shows, lounges, and parties to attend, I scrambled to have outfits prepared for every event.
