Let’s Boogie!

October 7, 2015

Ok, I’m going to admit something embarrassing. When it comes to swimming, I’m slightly terrified of the ocean. Swimming pools, I do much better with, however when it comes to being active on vacation, you can either find me at the hotel gym or running on the beach (close to the water, but not actually in it.) I can be talked into walking into the water, but only until about shoulder level. I think it started at a young age, due to wearing contacts. I never wanted to get them wet and salt water is insanely uncomfortable.

I’ve always wanted to learn to surf, and the closest I’ve come is the Surfset fitness class I once took at Chelsea Piers. Lame, I know, but it was still a challenging class. I want to compete in a triathlon, but swimming in the Hudson River holds me back, not to mention appearance of the water alone. If you’re a New Yorker, you follow me.

While on our recent vacation to Maui (more about that here), I decided I wanted to paddle board. I was really excited about the idea of trying something new, and tackling a fear, but of course the water was too rough that day and they wouldn’t let me go out. So I set out on the beach at the Four Seasons Maui, and decided to go boogie boarding instead. It had been years since I had done it, and I felt like a kid again. I ran through the water, caught the waves and rode them in. I laughed, I fell on my face, I was thrown under water, and probably ate sand a few too many times. My hair was sopping wet, and my eyes burned from salt water, but it was one of my favorite days in Maui. I think I conquered my fear! Grant and I took turns riding the waves, looking like complete idiots and loving every minute of it. We had so much fun that day. Next up…surfing lessons! I really want to. I guess it’ll have to wait until our next vacation, but I’m excited.

For a day to play on the beach, I was styled in Trina Turk swimwear. I absolutely love Trina Turk’s resort collection right now. I stopped by the boutique before I left New York, and it was stunning. The collection is colorful, and the prints are incredible. The triangle bikini top I’m wearing is reversible with a different print on each side, so you can wear it both ways. I loved that. It is my favorite swimsuit I have right now, and fits perfectly. If you are looking for resort wear for an upcoming trip, Trina Turk is definitely worth checking out. I love their fall and activewear collections as well.

Do you have a fear, or something that makes you hesitant in life? Does it hold you back from something that you’d really love to do or achieve. Try approaching it in a smaller way first, and it no longer feels scary. Remember…baby steps. My fear isn’t a big deal, however you can apply the same concept to anything in life. Think about it and try to incorporate this thought into your daily life. I’ll make you a promise to do the same. Whatever it is, you can and you should always try. Thanks for reading, Beauties. We have a few more stories from our trip, so I hope you follow along. Lots of love. xx
