Last week, I attended the Bob Mackie Launch Event at Screaming Mimi’s, a popular vintage clothing shop. The event was exciting and unique. I felt inspired by the clothing, sun glasses, jewelry and costumes from every decade. At the event, Mackie’s team launched their notebook collection with gorgeous sketches of his costumes. They are currently running a contest, “Give Me a Mackie,” to win a gorgeous ivory gown from Bob Mackie’s very first collection.
Bob Mackie is a legendary costume designer from the 1980’s. He has designed show pieces for Cher, Carol Burnett, Tina Turner, Beyonce, and many others. Mackie is an incredible inspiration to me. His eye for design, and attention to detail is unparalleled. He is known for glitz and glamour. The colors, detailed trim and pure imagination behind his designs turns each gown into an art piece. As a jewelry designer myself, I have a love and appreciation for all things that sparkle. Mackie’s designs make my eyes dance, and my imagination run wild. He puts true meaning my favorite line, “Life is short. Wear sequins and enjoy the party.”
