This month we celebrate three glorious years since the launch of our style site, Sleepless in Sequins. It is a love and passion project, combining our skills of fashion and photography. Looking back on the past three years, reminds me of where we started, as well as how far we’ve come. You can measure success in numbers, clicks, or dollars, however to us, it’s about the journey. It’s our endless road that we’ve paved, and we walk this one together.
One weekend, a handful of style influencers, and one luxurious ship in a league of it’s own. We were lucky enough to be invited on a weekend adventure with Royal Caribbean to explore their latest and greatest ship, The Anthem of the Seas, which is currently docked in Bayonne, New Jersey. We were wined and dined, we celebrated and explored, and met so many incredible people. It was truly a memorable weekend.
Living in New York has made me a bit too comfortable. I’m used to having everything at my fingertips, and walking to find anything I need. I’ll shamelessly admit that if the train ride is too far, or I need to cross town, which means taking several trains to arrive at my destination, I just won’t make the journey. It’s that bad. So I basically forget about the entire East Side of Manhattan. I’ve gotten so used my perfect little neighborhood, that I forget to explore anything else. I’m often made fun of, because I won’t even leave the city unless it’s by plane, with the extreme exception of visiting our besties who currently live in Jersey. Only for them, I suppose.
Oh, the power of social media. Call it fate, call it style inspiration, or a slight case of Instagram obsession, but I recently met a brand new blogger bestie. On a night spent tossing and turning, I gave up on the tossing and reached for my phone (generally a terrible idea). During my sleepless nights, I could be doing something educational such as reading, however I choose to endlessly scroll through Instagram, and chalk it up to trend research.
This past weekend, I celebrated my birthday here in NYC. I felt beyond loved by everyone in my life, and received so many special wishes. Each and every one meant so much. It’s not about material gifts in life that mean so much to me; it’s the people in my life that I cherish the most. They are truly my greatest gift.
For years I feared “matchy matchy” outfits. In no way, shape, or form did I want to flash back to the 90′s remembering the purple, multicolored flannel shirt I wore to school when I was young. The outfit had perfectly matching purple jeans, an identical plaid mini backpack, matching accessories, purple socks, and even glasses to coordinate. At the time, I had braces, and I’m fairly sure I chose the rubber bands around my braces to color coordinate as well. Head to toe, I was a vision in purple plaid. It makes me cringe just thinking about it, and I’m positive that photo evidence exists somewhere. Don’t get me wrong, a few years later, I did have some winners once the movie, Clueless rolled around. Pleated plaid skirts, and knee highs for the win! I have much fonder memories of those outfits.
Summer weekends in the city are a complete treat. The city empties out, as people leave for their planned vacations. There are some days when the emptiness bothers me, and other days when New York City feels like my own giant playground. That being said, I am beyond excited for several months full of sunshine. Having an August birthday makes me a summer baby, and it’s 100% when I’m my happiest.
What’s better than a traditional little black dress? A little navy dress! While I’ve fallen in love with prints and bright colors this season, there’s something so simple, sleek, and sexy about a clean, form fitting silhouette. The lines are flattering, and it showcases the woman’s figure much more than the dress itself.
Hey Beauties! What’s hotter than a little red dress? Not much. I’ve had an infatuation with the color red all season, and I just can’t enough of the perfect, red cocktail dress. I am a girl in love with color. You’ll notice that people around you react differently to the colors you wear. The color red speaks louder than words. No descriptions necessary. The color conveys confidence, attention, and desire. It is a color to wear, when you want to be noticed. Think of the red dress, as the little black dress’s cooler, fancier sister.
