Beach Nights in Menemsha

August 28, 2016

Do you have a childhood memory you cherish? One that you reflect on, and it gives you butterflies? For me, it’s traveling to Martha’s Vineyard. On our recent trip to the Vineyard, Grant and I spent time exploring a few favorite places that I used to visit with my family many years ago. When I was younger, I remember hoping that I’d be able to bring my future husband, back to explore a place that was so special to me. Although Grant has been to Martha’s Vineyard a few times with my family, this time it was just us, and it was just as dreamy as I imagined.

We spent time during the day, playing in the waves at Lambert’s Cove Beach. In the evening, we had planned on celebrating my birthday at a fancy, little restaurant called Atria in Edgartown. We’d been there several years ago and loved it, however spending time on the beach that day gave me a change of heart. How many fancy dinners do we go to in the city? A million. When do we spend time at the beach? Never ever.

We cancelled our reservation, packed up snacks, a bottle of wine, and picked up lobster rolls near Menemsha Beach. As a kid, I loved the fried zucchini, from a teeny little spot called The Bite. We treated ourselves and snatched that up as well. With our toes in the sand, we sipped wine and watched the sunset together. In that moment, all of my childhood memories came rushing back to me. I remembered sitting with my family eating the same lobster rolls and watching the fiery sun slowly dip down to the horizon. I remember jumping off of the lifeguard stand into the the soft sand. Scratch that. My cousins jumped, and I stood there terrified, until one of our parents helped to catch me, once I took the dreaded leap of faith. Looking at the lifeguard stand that night, I have to say that I think I’d be just as terrified to do it all over again. The night felt simple, but special because it was ours.

For night out to watch the sunset, I kept my look casual. I wore my favorite palm print romper (similar here), with is comfy and super easy to slip on. This summer, I’ve been loving the simplicity of a one piece style. I layered my look with a white denim jacket (similar here), and accessorized with flip flops (similar here). For jewelry, I wore gold hoops (similar here) and a gold, bangle bracelet.

If you travel to Martha’s Vineyard, make sure to catch the Menemsha sunsets. Believe me when I tell you they are epic. Lots of love from me, in sunny NYC. xx
