New York Fashion Week, Fall Winter 2014 season has officially come to a close. We had a busy week, covering runway shows, attending fashion events, and parties. Fashion Week is my absolute favorite time of year. The creation and production of each show always amazes me. I truly admire the designers in my industry and the collections they create each season. As fashion week comes to an end, these designers further ignite my passion to design and create my own jewelry collection. For me, each show is a story with a theme and a backdrop. The collections are coordinated with color palettes, prints, silhouettes, and coordinated with hair and makeup to complete each look.
This season, we went to Vogue’s Runway Retreat Events showcasing Brahmin’s latest handbag collection, as well as the runway shows of Kaufmanfranco, Ruffian, Tracy Reece, Lacoste, Lars Andersson, Rolando Santana, and 5:31 JÉRÔME’S presentation. We had the incredible opportunity to shoot backstage photos before the models took the stage for the Tracy Reese show. To celebrate the end of a fantastic season, we attended Fashion Week’s Closing Party held at The Highline Hotel.
I noticed a theme of neutral color palettes throughout many collections. This allowed the focus to be placed on the sophisticated silhouettes and elegant lines of each piece. I loved the deep jewel toned colors used in collections including, eggplant, cobalt blue, rich raspberry, and emerald green. Many of the prints incorporated into the pieces were florals, plaids, and geometric patterns. Designers made incredible use of textured fabrics, as well as beading and sequins. Dramatic fur and leather pieces were layered over the ensembles to complete several looks. The makeup on the runway, was either fresh faced and minimal, or deep and gothic, depending on the theme of each collection.
Here are a few of my favorite looks from the runway shows we covered this season.
