Oh Boy! Or Girl?

May 28, 2018

I knew it! I knew the gender of our mini munchkin immediately. I had no doubt in my mind…just as I knew I was pregnant before I took a test. Sometimes, your gut just knows the truth, and mine obviously did.

“So, is the baby a boy or girl?” I called to Grant, as I was in the shower, the night before we’d find out. “I don’t know,” he said. “What do you think?” I thought for a second (though I didn’t need to). See, I’ve been a girly girl my entire life. I love dressing up, I love sparkles, glitter, sequins, bows, stilettos…you name it. I always said the world would get me back someday. And it did. “It’s a boy!” I said. “Definitely a boy…without a doubt in my my mind.” Funny thing is, I knew always knew I’d have a boy, I was right. I cannot wait!

Will I hang up my sequined dresses and stilettos anytime soon? Absolutely not! Will I dress my son in sequins and glitter…again, no!

I will embrace anything he loves, be it cars, trucks, aliens, any type of sports, and honestly, I’m so excited for it all. I look forward to that day that I can hold his little hand in mine, and help him grow to be whatever he desires in this world. All I want for him is happiness.

The photos shared in this post, were from our trip home to Ohio to surprise my family with the news. They had no idea. Honestly, I had imagined sharing the news with them over and over again. I could hardly wait. The cab to the airport seemed to take forever. The one hour flight was eternity, and the Uber to my sister’s place was exhausting. We arrived at 11:00pm, just as they were about to go to bed. With a quick hug hello, I pulled out a gift, and a card for my sister and brother in law. I had written them a letter from Baby. Shrieking with excitement, my sister jumped on top of me. We spent the rest of the night chatting away and sent staged photos of us, holding champagne glasses, to my parents just to throw them off.

The next morning my sister helped me plan a “baby reveal” party for my parents. We ran around town, getting bagels, pastries, balloons, flowers and champagne. We hid decorations in the nursery until my parents arrived.

The door opened and they walked in. More hugs. I handed them a bag, and a card, which read, “Always Believe Something Wonderful is About to Happen.” Seemed appropriate, as it’s the way that I believe we should live our lives.

As they opened it, they read out loud, “Dear Grandma and Grandpa,” it said. Immediate tears streamed down their faces as they struggled to get the words out, reading the rest of the card. Honestly, it was one of the most emotional, memorable moments of my life. I wanted to give them something, full of life and happiness. Our baby boy was it. I had also given them a book, which they read me every night as a child. In it, was a letter, sharing my own memories, and expressing my excitement for this little life we are about to bring into this world. The smiles on their faces, were unforgettable.

I feel thankful, grateful, and so excited for this baby boy of ours. Although I won’t leave my sequins far behind, I look forward to the sleepless nights, but better yet, the memorable years to come.
