It’s 6:30am and I’m dressed for a cocktail party. A little lace dress, fancy shoes, wrapped in fur, with a smidge too much perfume. You walk out the door on a Tuesday morning like that right? Welcome to my world. The doormen must think I’m crazy, and my husband can confirm that. I get uncomfortable stares from little old ladies riding the elevator, as it looks like I’ve just completed the walk of shame with my makeup somehow still intact.
Why is this? All for you, beauties; all for you. We are chatting about holiday cocktail dresses today, and I did my best to create a look, and prance around Manhattan like a crazy girl to give you a few fab ideas. Now you can be a knockout at your own holiday parties. I know. You’re welcome.
Today we are featuring little lace dresses. There are a million to choose from and the options can be overwhelming. This particular lace dress I’ve chosen is a spin on a basic, lace sheath dress. I love it because it is a basic black, lace overlay; however it’s got a printed floral lining underneath. The color of the lining shows through the black lace, adding a “holiday” pop of magenta and red through the dress. It is understated, yet still colorful. As a side note, pay attention to the look of the lace when you are buying a dress. Some lace qualities can look cheap and others can look expensive. Make sure to feel the fabric first, to be sure it’s delicate and pay attention to the pattern in the lace as well.
The silhouette of the style is a simple, straight sheath dress, with cap sleeves, and a midi length skirt. Lately, I love the midi length, which falls right below the knees. It’s sophisticated, elegant, ladylike, and professional at the same time. It’s also a great way to cover your legs, if they aren’t your favorite feature. (I do this often).
To accessorize my look, I chose a fur piece that I love (similar here). There are so many great faux fur options out there, and they easily spice up an evening look. I added a magenta clutch (similar here), to coordinate with the colors in the dress, and add a pop of color to my accessories. I wore black, patent Bianca Pumps by Christian Louboutin to finish my look. For my jewelry, I chose crystal wrap bracelets, and crystal earrings.
I don’t know about you, but my week is jam packed with holiday parties. I’m stylizing my looks day by day, trying not to feel crazy which is a challenge. This time of year is so special, but can be overwhelming as well. Make sure to take some time for yourself, and appreciate the small moments, as always.
We’ll have a few other holiday looks coming up for you, so stay tuned. Hope your week is merry and bright. xx
