That’s right! We’re talking about one of the season’s hottest trends. Strappy design details are everywhere you look from street style, to evening gowns, as well as lingerie pieces.
Wedding season is upon us, which is the perfect time to snatch up a style and sport this sassy look. Now, where to find the dress? I don’t know about you, but I can’t stand that panicked feeling, where I’m scrambling through my closet, and running around to stores trying to find the perfect piece to wear for the occasion.
Besides the stress of finding the dress, there’a also the dreaded price of that dress. Enter, the fabulous company, Style Lend, which offers designer pieces which are lent at a fraction of the price. If you recall, we recently featured Style Lend in one of our posts from February (check it out here). You can scroll through Style Lend’s site, filter by size, and choose from a stunning selection of designer gowns. Once you choose your piece and pay for it, you then schedule a delivery time. The dress is instantly delivered to your doorstep. Magic, right? Once you return from your evening as Cinderella and you turn back into a pumpkin, Style Lend picks up your piece, 7 days later. It’s just enough time to drool over your dress (but don’t; you have to return it), and wish it was permanently yours. It’s taken care of and dry cleaned for you. No need to worry about storing the piece in your abnormally small NYC closet (if you live here). The best part is that you can choose another new style for your next event! Perfection!
Now, let’s talk about this stunner of a black gown, by BCBG Maxazria (currently on sale with BCBG’s Dress Event!). I had my eye on it for weeks. I just couldn’t keep my mind off of it. It is sleek, sophisticated, and sexy at the same time. At first glance, the gown intimidated me. There are so many cutouts in this style. I didn’t know if I could pull it off, and still keep the elegant appearance. The gown has side panel cut outs, and the back is fairly strappy and low cut. The neckline comes to a deep “v” and that works well for me. I have a small chest, so I don’t have much cleavage with this gown. Personally, I think it’s important to balance how much skin you show in a dress. This dress is quite cut out, therefore I kept the focus on the chest to a minimum.
When choosing pieces with cut outs, it’s important to to focus on how the dress fits you. Do not obsess over the size of the dress. Numbers do not matter, so don’t let them define you. The size will always vary, depending on the different brands you try. Often when I pick a style with cut outs, I’ll go up a size in the piece. You want to make sure the fabric lays well against your skin. If it’s too tight anywhere on your body, your skin may bulge from the dress and it’s just not pretty. Trust me! Think, “muffin top” effect.
I accessorized my gown with strappy, silver heels (similar here), which coordinates well with theme of the gown. I kept my hair and jewelry minimal and simple, since the gown was the showstopper. I wore my hair down, and straight. I added crystal, drop earrings (similar here) and a silver cuff bracelet (similar here) to complete my look.
We shot our photos at the beautiful, Grand Central Station. You many or may not know, but Grant and I first met in person, right next to Grand Central at a lounge in the Grand Hyatt Hotel. We shoot many of our posts at special New York landmarks, and this is one of them.
So beauties, I hope you learned a bit about styling pieces for your upcoming occasions. Don’t forget to check out Style Lend if you’re looking for some new, fancy pieces or accessories. As always, if you have any questions, please give us a shout out. We’re happy to help! Lots of love, and wishes for a wonderful week. xx
