All black everything. I can only take it for so long. I begin the Fall season embracing the color, and by February, I want to cry. Sure, there are days when I feel amazing in a little black dress, or leather skirt, however after awhile it can feel like a uniform. If you’re like me, and you crave color, I’ve come up with a few great ensembles to lighten and brighten your fall wardrobe, while still looking appropriate for the season.
We just closed out a beautiful Fall weekend in NYC. The air feels crisp, the leaves are beginning to turn, and I can’t go anywhere without a warm cup of hazelnut coffee; mainly to keep my hands warm. We strolled through Central Park this weekend per usual, and as I looked up, the leaves fell from the trees and gracefully floated to the ground in an array of fall colors.
To wrap up NYFW, we attended a Fall Fashion Party, celebrating with the teams of MCM x Harper’s BAZAAR. The chic event was hosted by the fabulous accessories brand MCM, as well as Harper’s BAZAAR’s Senior Merchandising Editor, Michelle Fawbush. I spent quite a bit of time chatting with Michelle and it was so much fun to hear her thoughts on this season’s fashion week, as well as the incredible events hosted by Harper’s BAZAAR. While mingling at the event, fancy hors d’oeuvres were passed, and the talented MCM artist, Blair Breitenstein was customizing handbags for the guests, with her incredible fashion illustrations. You may remember the beautiful Soho clutch she illustrated for me, from my previous post.
New York Fashion Week is in full swing. The city is bustling with designers showcasing their latest collections, and models walking the runways, while editors and fashionistas have taken over the town in their fanciest stilettos, just to get a piece of the action. Since I work in the fashion industry, I will tell you that fashion week trumps it all. Fashion brands and designers hustle the entire year to put together their collections, which are on display during fashion week. You’ll never see the work that goes into each collection behind closed doors, but let me tell you from experience, it is quite a labor of love.
Oh, the power of social media. Call it fate, call it style inspiration, or a slight case of Instagram obsession, but I recently met a brand new blogger bestie. On a night spent tossing and turning, I gave up on the tossing and reached for my phone (generally a terrible idea). During my sleepless nights, I could be doing something educational such as reading, however I choose to endlessly scroll through Instagram, and chalk it up to trend research.
This past weekend, we hosted a fall themed Blogger Birthday Bash for two of our dearest fashionistas, Cara Kovacs of The Stylephile and Leslie Marin of Bleecker and Spring. Unfortunately we missed both girls’ birthdays, so we planned a belated birthday celebration. Our other lovely friends who celebrated were Kathleen Osborne of Le Vintage Dress, Aishly Tromp of Style L4b, and Olivia Ribera of Sweets by Olivia.
I chose a fall theme for the party using shades of plum and metallic gold for the decor. When you are planning a party, it’s important to choose a color scheme and theme for your event. I always start with the look of the room. It helps me to envision the end product, before I even begin. I searched Pinterest for creative, fall themed table ideas, and floral centerpieces to create a story board, which helped me plan the party. You check out my party inspiration boards here.
The winter months are upon us and with that comes the unpredictable rainy, snowy weather. As much as I dread the temperatures, I’m loving the fun, fancy cold weather accessories I’ve found this season.
Sorel is a footwear brand that has recently stolen my heart. I’ve never been a girl who dresses practically. I love sparkly, fancy outfits which are rarely weather appropriate. While attending a Vogue style party, I was introduced to Sorel’s Fall/Winter boot collection. Sorel is best known for their waterproof boots. They are perfect for trudging through any sort of crazy weather. We were able to choose the style we liked best, and my eyes were immediately drawn to the Medina II Boot.
We are back in my hometown of Amherst, Ohio for a quick family visit. Coming back to the town where I grew up brings back so many childhood memories. Amherst is a small, charming town with cute shops, fun little restaurants, and friendly people. I always feel such a difference arriving here from the big city. It takes me about a day to adjust to the pace of my days here, but I find it calming and therapeutic. One of the things I love most is the watching the change of seasons. Right now, the trees are bursting with beautiful, fall colors, and the air feels crisp. I can even smell the change in the season. During our visit, we celebrated my mom’s birthday, toasted with champagne, and enjoyed being together. The happiness of home, and the love of family makes me feel complete.
While preparing for a hometown visit to Ohio, I went a little sweater crazy, in an attempt to find perfect sweaters for my trip. I’m generally not a sweater girl, so finding styles that I like is usually a challenge.
It’s time to put your party pants on, people! How do you even begin to choose your favorites? I hear you. The variety of leggings out there right now is overwhelming. I have to admit, I’ve fallen into the trap. Lately, I find myself trying on every pair I can find. They are comfy, cozy, great for traveling, and you can easily fold yourself into a pretzel on the couch, even after an indulgent meal. Styling your outfit around leggings is fun too, because it allows for various layering options.
